Sensex gains 399 points at the opening bell, and Reliance gains 2%

The Sensex and Nifty surged sharply in morning trade on Monday, after closing higher in the previous session.

At 9:15 am, the Sensex was up 399 points, or 1.08 per cent, at 37,467, while the Nifty was up 123 points, or 1.12 per cent, at 11,139.

Heavyweights Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank and Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) were among the top gainers on Sensex, rallying up to 2 per cent.

On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharmaceuticals and Hindustan Lever were among the few losers, declining up to 0.10 per cent.

Meanwhile, Asian shares edged up on Monday after News of progress in U.S.-China trade negotiations lifted sentiment, although worries about Washington’s posture toward Beijing persisted.

In the previous session, the Sensex ended 281 points higher at 37,069, while the Nifty was at 11,015, up 79 points.
