The Pentagon has stated that it has not received a response from China regarding requests for an opening of communication channels between the United States and China. Spokesperson John Kirby said that the Pentagon has “initiated contact” with the Chinese military on a broad variety of topics, but have not been successful in gaining a response. He also said that the US defense secretary Lloyd Austin is in touch with his Chinese counterpart and has requested China increase the level of communication.
