Japanese east coast shaken by powerful earthquake; no tsunami warning

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 shook eastern Japan on Sunday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the magnitude 6.1 quake that occurred at 10:37 a.m. Sunday had an epicenter off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, about 430 kilometers (270 miles) northeast of Tokyo.

The agency said there was no risk of a tsunami and there were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
