Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party recently suffered a major blow, after a senior party leader, Mian Javed Latif, resigned in protest of the violence that broke out in Islamabad on May 9th. Latif had been a key figure in the PTI’s Punjab leadership and was previously the party’s president in the province. According to the media reports, Latif leveled serious allegations against the Islamabad administration and the government, accusing them of instigating the violence. In his resignation letter, he blamed Imran Khan for not taking any action against the perpetrators. This has added to the controversy surrounding the incident, which saw several people injured and a police vehicle torched. The incident continues to be investigated by the authorities.
