If the individual was in prison for 33 years and has now been declared innocent, he or she is entitled to compensation in accordance with the law of the region in which the conviction occurred. Depending on the region, the individual may be eligible for financial compensation, free healthcare, and other services.
He or she may also be able to receive assistance in educational or job training programs. Additionally, he or she may be able to receive counseling and other supportive services. In some jurisdictions, the individual may be able to pursue a civil lawsuit against the government or parties responsible for the wrongful conviction as well.
