RF over Glass (RFoG) is a technology that enables optical fiber networks to carry radio frequency (RF) signals, such as cable television signals, from provider to consumer. RFoG is most commonly used in fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) deployments to bring cable television signals to homes and businesses that have fiber optic connectivity.
RFoG can be an efficient way to deploy cable services to a customer’s premises. As opposed to multiple methods, using RFoG eliminates the need to deploy amplifiers and cable node splitters, which can result in newfound cost savings. Additionally, since the RF signals are transmitted over an optical fiber link, it provides a secure and private connection between the service provider and the consumer.
On a global scale, RF over Glass deployments have been very limited and the US is the main leader in this technology. A few deployments are present in Canada, Japan, and India, but have seen little growth.
The global RF over Glass market was valued at US$ 1508.9 million in 2022 and is anticipated to reach US$ 2516.6 million by 2029, witnessing a CAGR of 8.9% during the forecast period 2023-2029. The influence of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War were considered while estimating market sizes.
