Civil rights organisations are challenging Florida’s new voting law

Several civil rights advocacy and legal organizations have filed a federal lawsuit challenging a new voting law in Florida that requires voters to provide identification at the polling place and restricts when and how they can cast a ballot. The lawsuit was filed by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and a coalition of civil rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Urban League and other organizations. The lawsuit claims that the law imposes a “massive and unconstitutional voter suppression” and bypasses the authority of the federal and state governments to enact solutions to protect and broaden access to the ballot box.
