China has accused the U.S. and its allies of what it calls a “disinformation campaign” in which U.S. and its allies have attempted to shift blame for recent cyberattacks to China. According to reports, the U.S. government has said that China was in some way involved in the massive attack on the Office of Personnel Management.
The U.S. has also accused China of launching numerous other high-profile cyberattacks against American targets and its allies. China indirectly denied those claims and suggested that the U.S. is fabricating false evidence in order to paint China in a bad light. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said, “This is an outright political figment, completely fabricated out of thin air, and a serious political provocation. We demand an end to these wrongdoings.” The Chinese government has repeatedly denied any involvement in the cyber attacks and has stated that it is a victim of cyberattacks as well.
