The Indian government is planning to launch a new production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the production of basic chemicals used in the pharmaceutical and other industries. The scheme aims to reduce dependence on imports for some of the key raw materials and to help promote the Make in India initiative.
The Minister of State (MoS) for Chemical and Fertilisers Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said that the scheme will focus on the production of Bulk Drugs, Drug Intermediates, and Specialty Chemicals. The PLI scheme will be managed by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) and the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC).
The PLI scheme will provide financial incentives to players in the basic chemicals industry for their production investments. This incentive is expected to help the industry increase its capacity and productivity. The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) is expected to soon issue the relevant notification for the scheme.
