One of Asia’s most successful women business owners is leaving Grab, the ride-hailing startup she helped establish

Tan Hooi Ling, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Grab, will vacate her post effective June 2021. Tan was the first full-time employee at the company, and is widely credited for spearheading many of the company’s early successes. She was instrumental in helping the company expand into Southeast Asia, launching operations in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

“It’s been an incredible ten years of working with Grab, and it’s time for me to move on to new opportunities.” said Tan. “I am deeply proud of everything we’ve achieved in such a short time. I’m an eternal optimist when it comes to Grab’s future, and I know they’re in great hands.”

Tan’s departure comes at a significant time for Grab, as the company looks to expand its Southeast Asian reach with ventures in food delivery, e-commerce, financial services, and more. She will remain an advisor to the company.
