After 22 years on the run, one of Rwanda’s most sought genocide suspects was captured in South Africa

Luc Simbikangwa, 56, one of the most wanted genocide suspects from Rwanda, was arrested recently in South Africa after 22 years on the run. Simbikangwa is accused of being involved in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, during which more than 800,000 people were killed. He is currently facing extradition to France, where he will be placed on trial for crimes against humanity. The French authorities have requested his extradition for his alleged role as an “operative in the chain of command of a genocidal organisation” during the massacres in Rwanda. Simbikangwa has reportedly been living in South Africa since 2009.
