Sherpa guide Kami Rita is an incredible feat of endurance, having climbed Mount Everest a record 28 times. However, despite recently turning 50, he says he’s not ready to retire.
Rita says that he is taking a break this year but will be back next year, determined to climb the mountain again. He has previously been quoted as saying that “Everest is calling me” and that “for now, I do not feel I have had enough.”
Rita first climbed Everest in 1994 and has worked as a guide for commercial expeditions since then. He is one of the few people who have reached the peak of the mountain more than 25 times and has said that he is always mesmerized by the highs of being at the top.
Given his impressive performance and longevity, it is clear to see why Rita feels that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank. Hopefully, he will continue to climb the mountain for many years to come.
