After a five-year dispute, Canada and Saudi Arabia are expected to resume full diplomatic relations, following the announcement of a joint statement by both governments. The two countries plan to open embassies in their respective capitals and to exchange ambassadors. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman released a joint statement praising the decision to resume normal relations and “underscoring the importance of the two countries in achieving peace and security for their people.” The two countries also said they will focus on strengthening ties in the economic, cultural, and educational fields.
