A Swiss court has acquitted prominent Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan on charges of rape.
The court in Lausanne ruled that Ramadan, who was a professor at Oxford University, was not guilty of any of the allegations leveled against him. Ramadan had been accused of rape by two women, one in France and one in Switzerland.
In its ruling on Wednesday, the court said that the “evidence of the complainant does not convince the court”.
The judge also said that there were “possible lies” by the complainants.
The ruling comes as Ramadan faces a string of other accusations in France, where he is still on trial. He has denied all of the charges against him.
