India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Ruchi Ghanashyam, has strongly refuted the allegations of human rights violations being spread on social media regarding the situation in Punjab.
In a statement issued on Monday, she said: “I wish to categorically state that there is no truth to the sensationalist lies being spread on social media. The Government of India is firmly committed to the protection of human rights and the rule of law, and any action taken by the security forces is in accordance with the laws of the land.”
She further noted that the on-going farmers’ protests are a matter of concern and are being addressed by the Government of India in a peaceful, transparent and democratic manner. Ghanashyam added that the Government of India is committed to engaging with the agitating farmers and finding solutions through dialogue.
