The LGBTQ+ community in Uganda is facing an increasingly hostile environment, as anti-homosexuality laws and prejudice continue to increase. In recent years, the government has passed legislation that criminalizes homosexual acts and has ordered a nationwide crackdown on the LGBTQ+ community.
Police have been raiding homes, businesses and public spaces, conducting mass arrests and detaining people without charge. LGBTQ+ individuals have also been targeted for abuse and discrimination. Human rights organizations have documented cases of torture, arbitrary detention and other forms of abuse.
The government has also shut down several organizations that provide support and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. In addition, members of the community face widespread ostracism and social exclusion, which can lead to homelessness, poverty and limited access to health care and other services. As the environment becomes increasingly hostile, the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda is facing an uncertain future.
