According to the 2019 Global Terrorism Index, Pakistan overtook Afghanistan as the most terror-hit country in the world in 2019. The index revealed that Pakistan experienced a 44% increase in terrorism-related deaths in 2019 compared to 2018, largely due to the impact of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP). On the other hand, Afghanistan experienced a 7% decrease in terrorism-related deaths, largely due to the US-Taliban peace agreement and the subsequent drawdown of US forces in the region.
