Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh are set to jointly inaugurate the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline on March 18. The pipeline will enable the supply of natural gas from India to Bangladesh.
The pipeline is part of India’s commitment to Bangladesh for the supply of natural gas from its northeastern state of Tripura to Bangladesh. The project is aimed at meeting Bangladesh’s energy needs and promoting economic development in the region.
The inauguration is being done virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pipeline is expected to provide a boost to the energy and economic sectors of both countries. It is also expected to improve regional cooperation and security in the region.
