Erdogan, the president of Turkey, makes a suggestion about Finland joining NATO

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that he would favor Finland’s accession to NATO. During a press conference with his Finnish counterpart, Sauli Niinistö, Erdogan said that Turkey was open to the idea of Finland joining the Alliance. He also noted that Turkey and Finland have enjoyed strong bilateral relations and that Turkey would be supportive of Finland’s accession to NATO. Niinistö has previously expressed an interest in joining the Alliance, but Finland has yet to make a formal request.
