At least 17 people were killed and 7 injured in a bus accident in Afghanistan on Wednesday.
According to officials, the accident occurred in the western province of Herat when the bus, carrying over 24 passengers, overturned.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but speeding is believed to have been a factor.
Local authorities have dispatched a team to the site of the accident to investigate and assist the victims’ families.
Afghanistan has one of the highest traffic accident death rates in the world due to dangerous roads and poorly maintained vehicles. The government has been trying to address the issue by improving the infrastructure, but much work still needs to be done.
