At this time, there is no official announcement that the grace period for H1B visa holders will be extended amid mass layoffs. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is not authorized to extend the grace period for H1B visa holders beyond the six-month period authorized in certain circumstances under the Immigration and Nationality Act. The USCIS may, however, consider granting additional time for H1B visa holders to find new employment under certain extenuating circumstances. It is important for H1B visa holders to contact their employers and/or the USCIS to determine what options are available.
