Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, has said that a recent incident involving a drone flying over Washington, DC was a “provocation”.
The drone, which was believed to have been operated by a Russian national, was intercepted by the US Secret Service on June 20. It was reportedly equipped with a camera and flew over the White House and other government buildings.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, Antonov said that the incident was unlikely to have been the work of a lone individual and that it was likely orchestrated by someone else. He added that the incident was “unacceptable” and that it would not be tolerated.
Antonov also said that the Russian government was ready to cooperate with the US to investigate the incident and that it would take “all necessary measures” to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The US Secret Service has said it is still investigating the incident and has yet to identify the individual responsible.
