We talk about the MARKET

Meghan Markel on media attacks: ‘It’s so painful to be hated like this.’

Meghan Markle has spoken out about the media attacks she has faced over the years, calling it “painful” to be so widely disliked. In an interview with The New York Times, Markle explained that the intense scrutiny she has experienced since joining the royal family has had a huge emotional toll. She said, “I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair. And that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile.”

Markle went on to say that she had tried to make the best of her situation, but that it had been difficult to accept the negative attention she had received. She said, “I’ve tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I tried, I really tried. But I think what that really means is you try and not let them see you sweat. And I think that’s what I’ve done for a majority of it, even though at the same time I can feel the tentacles of the tabloid world wrapping around me.”

Markle also spoke about her experience of racism, saying that she had experienced more of it since becoming a part of the royal family. She said, “I would say, particularly in the last year, it’s a very different scenario. And I can speak personally too, you know, being interviewed and part of it, you know, with my name, of course, comes race and how I identify. And also how people perceive that. And then there’s also the thing of them not being able to box me in.”

Markle concluded her remarks by emphasizing the importance of speaking out against injustice and making sure that everyone is treated with respect and dignity. She said, “I think we all know what’s right and wrong. We know inequality is wrong. We know discrimination is wrong. We know that the world needs more love and compassion. We know that.”
