A Japanese YouTuber was elected to the legislature last year. He was dismissed as a result of not showing up for work

In July of 2019, comedian and YouTube star Mizuho Fukushima became a member of the House of Councillors in Japan, the upper house of Japan’s bicameral legislature. She was the leader of the Social Democratic Party and was originally elected to her post in 2016.

Unfortunately, Mizuho has since been fired from her position for failing to show up to work. According to reports, she had not attended a single session of the House of Councillors since her election in July of 2019. Her absences were viewed as “inappropriate behavior in a public servant,” according to the House of Councillors’ ethics committee. Mizuho has since apologized for her behavior and has stated that she will continue to work to serve the public
