Rupee increases 20 paisas to 81.50 against the dollar

The Indian rupee gained 20 paise to close at 81.50 against the US dollar on Monday, as gains in the domestic equity market supported the local currency. The rupee opened at 81.70 against the greenback, and touched an intra-day high of 81.45 and a low of 81.72, before settling at its final rate.

The domestic unit had closed at 81.70 against the US dollar on Friday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.27 per cent lower at 92.58.
