In response to weeks of violence, Peru’s president requests a “truce”

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra has called for a “truce” following weeks of unrest in the country over a series of government reforms.

In a televised address, President Vizcarra said he was open to dialogue and suggested a meeting with opposition leaders to discuss the reforms and the political crisis.

He also asked for an end to the violence that has erupted in recent weeks, saying it had only served to polarize the country and deepen the conflict.

Vizcarra argued that the reforms were necessary in order to tackle corruption and improve living conditions in Peru. He also urged Peruvians to put aside their differences and come together to build a better future.
