The United States is planning to send Abrams tanks and other military equipment to Ukraine in a show of support for the country in its ongoing conflict with Russia, according to US officials.
The shipment would include a total of 15 M1A2 Abrams tanks, more than 100 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and a variety of other military equipment, such as night vision equipment and radar systems. The package is valued at approximately $250 million and will be funded by the US government.
The shipment is expected to arrive in Ukraine later this year and will be used to help bolster the country’s defenses against Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. The United States has already provided Ukraine with other forms of military assistance, including training, intelligence, and non-lethal equipment.
The US shipment comes as tensions between Ukraine and Russia continue to simmer, with both sides accusing each other of violating the Minsk II ceasefire agreement. The US and its allies have also accused Russia of providing military support to the separatists in eastern Ukraine, a charge which Moscow denies.
