The United States has not made any official statement regarding Finland and Sweden joining NATO, however, both countries have expressed interest in joining the alliance.
Finland has been actively exploring membership since 2019, and in December 2020, the Finnish government submitted an application for membership to NATO. Sweden has also expressed interest in joining, but has yet to make a formal application.
Both countries have long-standing policies of non-alignment, and have been reluctant to join the alliance due to concerns about Russia. However, the security situation in Europe has changed drastically in recent years, and both countries have become increasingly concerned about Russia’s military buildup and aggressive actions in the region. As a result, they are now more willing to consider NATO membership.
