Prominent Cameroon journalist found dead after abduction A prominent Cameroonian journalist and publisher has been found dead after being abducted by unidentified gunmen last week, one of his friends and a family source said on Monday.

The body of Samuel Wazizi, who worked as a journalist and presenter for Equinoxe TV, was found in a bush near the town of Kumba, in the southwestern region of Cameroon, according to the friend and the family source, who both requested anonymity.

Wazizi had been missing since he was abducted by four men on August 13. He had been under investigation by the Cameroonian military for alleged “acts of terrorism”, according to a statement from the military prosecutor.

The journalist’s death has been widely condemned by media groups in Cameroon, who have called for an investigation into his killing.

The United Nations human rights office said it was “alarmed” by the news of his death and urged the Cameroonian authorities to “promptly, thoroughly and transparently investigate.”

The International Federation of Journalists said it was “outraged” by his death and called for a “full investigation into the circumstances of his murder”.
