Russia and Ukraine both criticise the West, with one warning of a “global war” and the other blaming “indecision”

Russia and Ukraine have both responded to Western criticism of their actions in the region, with Russia warning of a potential “global war” and Ukraine blaming “indecision” from the West.

Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Western nations of “inciting” Ukraine against Russia, accusing the West of encouraging Kiev to “adopt a military solution” instead of a political one. Putin added that “if the situation gets out of control, it could lead to a global war.”

Ukraine, meanwhile, blamed the West for its “indecision” in the face of Russian aggression in the region. President Petro Poroshenko said that the West’s failure to take a strong stance against Russia’s actions has “contributed to the escalation of the conflict.” He added that “we are only asking for a clear and decisive response from the West in order to restore peace in the region.”

Both countries have accused the other of violating international law, and the conflict has led to increased tensions between Russia and the West. The crisis has escalated since the 2014 annexation of Crimea by Russia, and the recent build-up of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border has further increased fears of a possible conflict.
