The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the selection of caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad Naqvi, by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
PTI’s Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry has announced that the party will take the battle to the streets if their demands are not met.
The PTI has alleged that Naqvi is a partisan candidate, as he was a member of the PML-N and has close ties with the Sharif family.
The PTI has demanded that the ECP immediately withdraw its decision and select a neutral candidate.
Meanwhile, the ECP has maintained that Naqvi was selected after taking into consideration the views of all stakeholders, including the PTI. The commission has also clarified that Naqvi is an independent candidate and not affiliated with any political party.
It remains to be seen how the PTI’s street protests will pan out and if the ECP will change its decision.
