On July 17, 2020, a Ryanair flight from Poland to Greece was escorted by fighter jets after a bomb threat. The flight was met by two F-16 fighter jets of the Greek Air Force when it arrived at the destination airport in Heraklion, Crete.
The airline was alerted by Polish authorities regarding the bomb threat and immediately took the necessary measures. According to Greek media, the aircraft was searched and no explosive device was found.
The airline later confirmed the incident, saying that it was “informed by the Polish authorities of a suspected security threat on board flight FR4978 from Krakow to Heraklion. The crew followed procedures and the aircraft landed safely in Heraklion.”
The passengers were asked to disembark and were questioned by security personnel. The passengers were eventually allowed to re-board the aircraft and the flight took off again for its destination.
