Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, calls on allies to “speed up” the supply of weapons

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is calling on the United States and other allies to speed up the delivery of weapons and other military assistance to help the country defend itself against Russian aggression.

In an address to world leaders at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, Zelenskyy urged the international community to provide Ukraine with “the means to protect its people and its borders.”

“We need to speed up the delivery of military assistance to Ukraine,” he said. “We need more lethal weapons, more modern hardware, and more real-time intelligence.”

The United States has provided Ukraine with hundreds of millions of dollars in nonlethal military aid, including radar and night vision equipment, body armor, and communications equipment. It has also sent lethal weapons like Javelin anti-tank missiles.

But Zelenskyy said the international community needs to do more. He noted that since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and began supporting separatist forces in eastern Ukraine, the conflict has continued to escalate.

“We need to accelerate our efforts to provide Ukraine with the means to protect its people and its borders,” he said. “We need to strengthen the defense capabilities of Ukraine.”

The security situation in Ukraine has been a major issue for the international community, particularly in Europe. The conflict has killed more than 13,000 people and displaced more than 1.5 million.
